Did you know that pigs live in groups called sounders? How about the fact that they are one of the most intelligent animals on Earth? Today, in this video for kids, we are going to learn more about pigs!

Pigs are mammals with strong, stocky bodies and a thick layer of fat called blubber that helps keep them warm. They have short legs with cloven hooves, meaning their hooves are split into two parts. Their snouts are flat and flexible, which helps them dig in the soil for food. Pigs have small eyes but excellent senses of smell and hearing. Their skin can be pink, black, brown, or spotted, and some breeds even have coarse hair called bristles. Some pigs are tiny enough to fit in your arms, while others can grow bigger than a motorcycle!

It may surprise you to learn that pigs are highly adaptable animals and can live in many environments. Feral (wild) pigs or boars live in forests, grasslands, and swamps. Domesticated pigs are raised on farms with shelters to protect them from extreme weather. Pigs do not sweat much and cool off by wallowing, or rolling in mud. This behavior also protects their skin from the sun and insects.
