Let’s start with the basics: what is observation, hypothesis, and inference? And what exactly does each word mean?

An observation is the gathering of information using the five senses: touch, sight, hearing, taste and smell. An inference is using background knowledge to make a guess about an observation. And a hypothesis uses research and background knowledge to make a guess about something that has not yet happened… kind of like a prediction. Seems pretty straight-forward, right?
