Did you know that Jupiter is named after the king of the Roman gods? In this video for kids, we will learn even more interesting facts about this gigantic planet.
Jupiter is the largest planet in our solar system. Its massive size is one of the reasons why Jupiter is named after the king of the Roman gods. Because of its place in the solar system, Jupiter is one of the colder planets, and is located about four hundred eighty-four million miles away from Earth.
One of the most striking things about Jupiter is its colors. This gas giant is swirled with orange, white, and brown, which comes from the gases in its atmosphere that are blown around by intense storms.
Unlike planets closer to the sun, Jupiter does not have a solid surface. It is made mostly of hydrogen and helium, which are the same materials that stars are made of. Jupiter also has a ring system, though not as bright as Saturn’s. These faint rings are made of dust and small particles.
