In this inspiring video, we meet Evan, a college student from Philadelphia who transformed his concern about food waste into a mission to help those in need. Every year, the USA produces an astounding 241 million tons of food, yet more than a third is wasted while many families struggle to access nutritious meals. Evan realized this problem when he had leftover meal swipes at school and decided to take action by redistributing them to homeless people in his community.

With the help of his organization, Sharing Excess, Evan has been rescuing food that would otherwise go to waste and distributing it for free. He partnered with Beast Philanthropy to launch an ambitious plan to provide even more meals to those struggling with food insecurity. After establishing a warehouse in Philadelphia and rescuing over 14 million pounds of food, Evan and his team opened a new distribution center at the Hunts Point produce market in New York City, the largest produce market in the world.

The excitement builds as Evan and his team prepare for their biggest distribution yet in the Bronx. Hundreds of families come out to receive fresh produce, and the joy on the children’s faces as they receive their meals is heartwarming. Evan shares his journey and emphasizes the importance of community and helping one another. With the support of generous organizations, Evan dreams of expanding Sharing Excess’s impact worldwide, proving that anyone can make a difference and turn their passion into a purpose.
