We Rescued Kids Living in a Garbage Dump

In this touching video, we explore the harsh realities faced by many children living in the garbage dump sites of India. With over 2 million people relying on these dumps to survive, children like Akbar have no choice but to scavenge through dangerous trash just to help their families make ends meet. Sadly, this means they often miss out on education and a brighter future.

We meet Shafkat, the director of a wonderful organization called Tila Jala Shed, which has been working for over 36 years to transform the lives of vulnerable children. Shafkat shares the heartbreaking stories of children trapped in cycles of poverty, including Akbar, whose dream of becoming an engineer seemed out of reach. But with the help of Tila Jala Shed, Akbar is now enrolled in school, catching up on his studies, and filled with hope.

Throughout the video, we see the incredible impact of education, not just on the children, but on their families and communities. With support, Tila Jala Shed has provided opportunities for 20,000 children, helping break the cycle of poverty. We also witness the joy of children engaging in various extracurricular activities that nurture their talents and interests.

The video highlights the urgent need for continued support to help even more children escape these harsh conditions. As we follow the stories of brothers Moes and Adir, we learn about their struggles and dreams for their families. The video ends on a hopeful note, showcasing how kindness and generosity can change lives, proving that together, we can make a difference.

Sometimes we see a problem that seems so insurmountable that we ignore it thinking “What difference will $5 make?” It makes a huge difference because thousands of small donations add up very fast, but thousands of people deciding their contribution is too small to make a difference leads nowhere. Please give what you can. Apathy is our enemy.

Started by Alamgir, and now run by his son Shafkat, Tiljala Shed is an outstanding organization. They are committed to helping as many children as possible by giving them dignity and opportunity. Please consider donating to help.

While we were in India we were told many of the children in the program came from households where there was not enough food to eat every day. Massive shoutout to The Smith Brothers Family Foundation for their incredibly generous donation to feed all these families for the next two years.

And finally, in a shocking, yet unsurprising (I know that doesn’t make sense, but its how I feel) act of generosity, Tony and Sage Robbins, after watching a prescreening of the video, instantly offered to support this entire program, including the at-home meals for these kids and their families

for an entire additional year.

Poverty is a global problem. What is depicted in our videos is not intended to represent the entire country, or its people. Every country has its poor. We wish to draw attention to the issues that challenge humanity across the planet, build empathy, offer relief where we can, and inspire others to do the same. We can only change the world together.
