How to draw an Elephant for beginners. Pencil drawing and shading step by step using a regular HB graphite pencil. I first lightly sketch out a rectangle and divide it in two by drawing a vertical line through the center. I then use the lower portion of the center line for a guide for the front legs and proceed by using this mark as a point to work from when sketching in the remainder of the body by sight.

Once I'm happy with the general layout I begin to add details and apply shading with the outside of the pencil. I block in darkest tones, mid tones and lightest tones but I gradually build up the mid and dark tones throughout the drawing process.
