So when you hear about the Chinese New Year, it sounds like a time of merry-making, but it was not so earlier….there were dark days too….as legend says a long long time ago in China, there was a nasty beast named Nian, he was scary with sharp teeth and claws who lived in wilderness. But on the darkest night of the year, when the new moon was in the sky, he would sneak into the village and scare everyone away……even the animals. People dreaded the new moon for many years, until the wise man, told them about the three things that Nian was afraid of…..find out what were those three things.

You know how are animals associated with the Chinese New Year? There is another interesting story to this; according to the legend, long time ago, the Jade emperor in China organized a race of animals. The first 12 animals to reach his palace would win the race and would get a year named after them in their honour. During the race the ox was winning until he had to cross a river, soon came the rat and requested the ox to help him cross the river. The ox was kind, so asked the rat to ride on his back.

You know who won the race…..you must watch the full video to know it.
