On this journey, kids will learn what churches and cathedrals looked like back then, why art served as a way to teach without words, and how architecture, painting, and sculpture evolved over time. - What Romanesque art is and when it developed: mainly between the 10th and 11th centuries, during a period of greater stability in Europe

- What Romanesque architecture looks like: stone churches with thick walls, few windows, semicircular arches, and barrel vaults

- What Romanesque paintings look like: frescoes with intense colors and religious scenes designed to teach the people

- What Romanesque sculpture looks like: reliefs on doorways, facades and the tops of pillars and columns that depicted biblical stories and teachings

- What Gothic art is and how it evolved from Romanesque art: a style developed between the 12th and 15th centuries

- What Gothic architecture is like: pointed arches, ribbed vaults, buttresses, and flying buttresses that allowed for the construction of taller and brighter cathedrals

- How stained-glass windows fill cathedrals with light and color, especially the rose window, a large decorative circular window

- What Gothic sculpture is like: more realistic and expressive, with detailed figures, gargoyles, and chimeras
