In this video, coach Lois Peake explains how you can prevent your opponent attacking by using a short touch.

When an opponent serves backspin, most players will either push long or flick. But another option is to return the ball short, so it bounces at least two times on the other side. This can catch out the server and will often force a weak shot. It's a great way to stop the attacker executing a 3rd ball attack.

Not many players at the amateur level use a short touch. If you can add this into your game, it gives you more options when you play and help you win extra points. 

In the video Lois gives some tips on how to execute a forehand touch and a backhand touch. There is plenty of slow motion footage, and examples where Lois uses this shot successfully against me.
