Educational video for children that talks about long division with one and two digit numbers. To divide is to split a quantity into equal parts. The dividend is the number that is divided into, while the number that it is divided by is called the divisor. In other words, in a division problem, the divisor is divided into the dividend. To divide, you need to know the multiplication tables very well. To start long division, we have to see how many digits of the dividend we have to use. The rule is that the digit of the dividend we are going to divide into has to be equal to or greater than the divisor. We have to mentally calculate which number multiplied by the divisor is closest to that digit of the dividend. Then, we write it down above the box and put that number times the divisor below the dividend. After that, subtract the product from the dividend and write the result below. The result of a division problem is called the quotient. When there are no more numbers left to divide, we get the remainder. If the remainder of the division is equal to 0, it is an exact division. In other words, it is possible to divide the whole dividend into equal parts with nothing left over. When the remainder is not 0, or there is a number left over, it is called an inexact division. To check your work, follow this rule: the dividend of a division problem equals the divisor multiplied by the quotient plus the remainder.
This video is a very useful and interesting resource for children. It is perfect for teaching about long division with one and two digit numbers. It is an excellent video for primary education.
