It is a very short-lived emotion and there is always another emotion that follows it, such as joy or sadness, depending on the source that provoked it.

How does surprise affect our body? When you are surprised you may feel your heart start to beat faster, notice a slight tingling in your body and you may even feel like you need to take in a little more air for a moment.
