Learn your shapes with Numberblock Four! In this fun 2D shapes song for kids, Four throws a party in Flatland to find out what makes a circle, a triangle, a square and a rectangle.

What makes a shape a shape? Its sides and its angles. A circle has one curved edge. A triangle has three straight sides of any length. A square has four sides that are all exactly the same length. A rectangle has four right angles, and its opposite sides match: two longer, two shorter. A shape's colour, size and the way it's turned don't change its name, so a square is still a square when it spins round or changes colour.

Lyrics:

Here in Flatland

We’re having a party

Learning about our shapes

What makes them different

What makes them unique!?

Soon enough, you will see…

What makes a shape a shape!?

Let’s work it out!

What makes a shape a shape!?

Time to learn about

Our shapes!

How many sides does the first shape have?

Only one!? ( Would you look at that! )

A circle is made with one curved edge

Let’s see what shape is next!?

This shape has three sides…

One, two, three…

It’s a triangle

And soon you’ll see

It doesn’t really matter

If they’re short or long,

If you have three sides

You can’t go wrong!!

What makes a shape a shape!?

Let’s work it out!

What makes a shape a shape!?

Time to learn about

Our shapes!

A square is very clever!

It has four sides

Of equal length

No matter the size!

Turn a square on its side

It’s still a square!

Red, pink, orange, blue -

I'm still a square - it’s true!!

A rectangle

Has 4 right angles

Two long sides

and two short

It’s like a square

But a little longer

Our shape game

Is getting stronger!

What makes a shape a shape!?

What makes a shape a shape!?

Let’s break this down.

If you have one side, what can you do?

Curve it into a circle - It looks like the moon!

With three sides, let’s make something nice

A pointy triangle - it’s a pizza slice!

How about four sides, all of the same size?

A perfect square! Like one side of a dice!

Two sides that are short, and two that are long?

It’s a rectangle! Let’s finish the song!!

What makes a shape a shape!?

We’ve worked it out!

What makes a shape a shape!?

We had a party, to learn what shapes are all about!
