Gebaseerd op een reeks kinderboeken volgt "Thomas & Friends" de avonturen van Thomas de Stoomlocomotief en zijn locomotiefvrienden op het eiland Sodor. Thomas komt vaak in de problemen, maar hij geeft nooit op om een echt nuttige locomotief te zijn. Andere leden van de spoorweg van Sir Topham Hatt zijn onder andere: Percy (Thomas' beste vriend) en Gordon (de snelste en krachtigste locomotief van het team).
