What is in the video

The video starts with Wheels on Xmas and then moves through Jingle Bells, We Wish You a Merry Christmas, Deck the Halls and Merry Christmas, in that order. Each song has its own tune and its own mood, so a child hears something new each time the music changes, and a parent can choose the song that suits the moment.

The Christmas school bus

The first song takes place on a festive school bus dressed in holiday lights and a giant red bow. Santa Claus is behind the wheel, and children climb aboard at the bus stops along the way. The bus drives through snowy streets while its wheels turn and bells ring, and the kids sing Deck the Halls as the ride goes on. High above the town, Santa and his reindeer fly past in a sleigh.

The festive look

This animated video is full of winter color. The bus glows with holiday lights, the red bow stands out against the snow, and the town below looks quiet and cozy. Children can spot the lights, the bow, the bells and the reindeer, so there is always something to point at. The pictures are clear and simple, which suits the youngest viewers.

Sing along at home

Several of these songs are ones families already know, so children can join in after a play or two. For the bus, turn your hands around for the wheels, jingle a toy bell when the bells ring and wave at Santa when the sleigh flies by. A compilation also gives you a few songs to move through in one sitting, whether that is decorating the tree, a family holiday gathering or a quiet winter afternoon.

Watching together

Watch with your child and pause between songs to ask which one they liked best. Children who know a carol can sing the next line before it comes, and those who do not can pick it up by the second play.

Who it suits

Toddlers, preschoolers and young children will enjoy it most, along with the parents and carers who sing with them.

A note for parents

This is a family-friendly holiday video made for young children. The mood is cheerful from the first bell to the last, there is nothing to buy and nothing that needs a grown-up to explain, so it is a calm, easy watch for small children.

Regional notes

The songs are sung in English, with short words and tunes that repeat. Christmas songs like these are known to families in many countries, and a snowy town, a sleigh and Santa will look familiar to anyone who celebrates Christmas or simply enjoys winter songs.

Lyrics (Wheels on Xmas)

The wheels on the bus go round and round,

Round and round, round and round.

The wheels on the bus go round and round,

All through the town.
